Can you get workers’ comp benefits in Decatur?

If you were working in Duluth, Georgia — or elsewhere in Georgia — and suffered a work-related injury, it’s important to take action immediately. First, seek medical attention and notify your manager. Getting looked at by a doctor or nurse and starting the healing process is essential. Your supervisor or HR should help get you in touch with your company’s preferred doctors. If you wait too long to file a workers’ compensation claim, insurance companies may view your injury and claim as illegitimate.

In order to file a formal workers’ compensation claim, you will need to include details about your injury and situation — including the location of the injury, how the injury occurred, date and time, and potential witnesses. Fill out the forms as accurately as you can, and be sure to attend all follow-up medical appointments.

And remember, at any time if something doesn’t seem right you can seek out professional legal council at Gerber & Holder Workers’ Compensation Attorneys. We will help guide you through the entire process and make certain we don’t leave a dime behind.

    About Decatur, Georgia

Decatur, Georgia was named after United States Navy Commodore Stephen Decatur, who was a national hero for his leadership during the War of 1812. Commodore Decatur commanded two ships: USS Enterprise and USS Constitution. He also helped establish the U.S. Navy as a rising power in the world, and was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal. At least 46 communities and 7 counties throughout America have been named in his honor.

Before Decatur, GA was founded, it sat at the intersection of two well-established Native American trails called the Shallowford, which follows Clairmont Road, and the Sandtown, which goes east from the Chattahoochee River. Decatur was a pivotal location during the Civil War and was a strategic site in Sherman’s Atlanta Campaign. In the 20th century, the future of Decatur teetered on the edge as the town experienced several economic ups and downs before things finally settled down in the 1960s and 1970s as long-term area development built up momentum.

Decatur is the county seat of DeKalb County, situated about 4 miles northeast from downtown Atlanta. The proximity to downtown Atlanta, along with the town’s “small town charm,” has resulted in steady growth for the last few decades. Decatur is now home to roughly 25,000 people and contains a variety of historical districts, as well as a thriving festival and art scene.

Whether you live or work in Decatur, or both, it’s important to know your legal rights in the unfortunate event that you are injured at work or become ill due to your occupation. Under Georgia workers’ compensation law, injured employees can receive compensation for medical bills, lost wages and other expenses related to a workplace accident. Unfortunately, this doesn’t stop many insurance companies and employers from attempting to wrongfully deny or reduce injured workers’ benefits.

Were your or your spouse recently hurt at work in Decatur, Georgia? If so, one of the best steps you can take next is to contact our experienced Decatur workers’ compensation attorneys as soon as possible to get answers to important questions like: How much is your claim worth? What can you do if your claim is denied? Do you have to return to work?, etc. We’ll take the time to carefully listen to your concerns and explain your next best steps. You should focus on recovery, and let us handle the complex paperwork, timelines and negotiation.
